With the end of World War 11 a new period of oil paintings came to the fore and this was known as contemporary oil paintings. Museums referred to contemporary art as the time after World War 11 ended up until the present day, the definition which is usually used, is art work of the here and now.
Art organisation funded by the public, which have an interest in contemporary art often work together in close association with the commercial art sector. Dealers and museums of this type may work in association as well, where the dealer can represent the artist who’s work is on display to the public.
The effect on this style of art work can be influenced by the many places exhibiting oil paintings. Corporations that organize awards and sponsorship, have art works displayed in their buildings and quite large collections can have an influence, as can private collectors who concentrate on a certain style at that particular time.
Art galleries may have certain styles on exhibit as does an art organisation if influenced by outside pressures such as the public or the commercial sector. An exhibit may be set up by an artist personally and be of a certain style of oil painting with a view to the sales of these. Whatever the reason many oil painting art styles are influenced by the particular period of time.
There are quite a number of competitions available for the contemporary artist, as well as awards for their work and various prizes which can be won in the competitions. Some of these competitions are for different age groupings, certain nationalities and emerging artists.
Oils done by a contemporary artist may be very appealing to the public, they can also have the opposite effect. Some may see a work in oils as an outstanding piece of art work, whilst others find they cannot see any representation of what they consider the true form of art.
Representations of art works over different periods of time have varied greatly, in the 1950’s one style was abstract expressionism, whereas the period of 2000 saw other styles one of which was the classical realism. Art changes from one period to another and influences such as those of well known artists changing their style of oil painting, to a collector of some renown wanting a certain style may have an effect. In the end it may be the purchaser of these works who has the most effect, whether they like the attractive, simple, well done or colorful, it may be what they buy is what will change the way painting of oils is done.
